So, this hasn't been a tackle it tuesday for me so much as a tackle-it-monday-and-tuesday, but what can you do? The holidays have me 'nesting'. So, I went through all the toys; The toys in The Princess' room, the toys in The Pea's room, even the toys in the playroom and purged, purged, purged. It felt good. Once I got that done I rearranged the playroom. I'm even proud to announce that the new layout is working spectacularly and gives the girls more floor-play space. YeeeHAWWW!
After that, I cleaned out all closets and cabinents in the house, and once again, purged, purged, purged. Clothes, dishes, decorations, bags, folders, anything and everything that doesn't serve a purpose at the moment in our home was tossed (into a box to be donated). And as I went I reorganized and straightened anything that needed to be straightened. The kids' craft cupboard was among these things - what a mess!
It has been a while since I have done a good old fashioned day-or-two long declutter and as I sit here, 7:20 on Tuesday evening, listening to The Knight play with the girls in the bathtub (they are in the bathtub, he is not... our bathtub is not that big, sheesh) I can't help but wonder why not. I feel rejuvenated by the accomplishments and motivated to keep going. Unfortunately, I think if I do any more some family members may start wondering where integral possesions have disappeared to. So, for now I suppose that is all.
On a more serious note though, where does the STUFF come from? Tell me, has anyone ever really figured that out? I'm at a loss. We pride ourselves on not falling victim to the ills of consumerism, and even now as I sit here contemplating the pile of boxes that will need to be loaded into my car I can't think of many ways in which we need to cut back further. We're not perfect, we probably indulge the girls in toys more than we need to, and they have pretty extensive wardrobes but with the sheer amount of 'stuff' I'm able to get rid of without so much as a second thought I have to conclude that we have obviously failed at a bigger more important point somewhere along the line (or possibly just many more smaller points that I can't seem to think of right now).
I guess we have a good new year's resolution to work on as a family. Anybody else have one yet?

Interesting isn't it how the holidays can get one into "nesting" mode. :0) I find toys multiply here too. We limit toys for birthdays and Christmas but they still seem to compile. I like to declutter and look forward to giving away some stuff to those who can use it when my girls outgrow them.
I totally hear you - it seems that every time I clean something I find a bag or box full of stuff I need to purge - freecycle is the best for that! :) You did a great tackle - I bet your tired! :)
you're doing what i want to be doing. but we're getting in 'going off to utah' mode...fun to see the family, but a big part of me wants to nest and clean closets like you
Wow - that sounds like a thorough, healthy tackle! Good for you!
Yes it is brutal how much stuff we accumulate. I am terrible at getting rid of things so I really end up with too much stuff in our house.
Due to the overall small size and lack of storage we do tend to not buy a lot but I could still purge so much. Really, I'd love to live in super minimalist way but I'm not there yet.
My resolution is to go to bed earlier and wake up early of my own free will.
It's not as easy as it sounds :)
